Francis Joung has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Otago University, 2001) and certification with the NZ Manipulative Association, McKenzie therapy, Clinical Pilates with Back in Motion (NZ), and Dance Medicine Australia. He has built his practice on a strong background in sports rehabilitation, weight training, running, and ballet. As a pianist and guitarist, he has intimate knowledge of musicians' injuries.
He is physiotherapist for Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and a guest lecturer at School of Music, University of Auckland. Francis is also a clinical supervisor for AUT physiotherapy school, and lectures internationally on the topic of physiotherapy and pain.
Over the course his career he has developed a great passion for helping people with chronic pain, and this has prompted him to develop frameworks that effectively put together the scientific literature of various disciplines - neurophysiology, cognitive-behavioural, exercise science and, of course, physiotherapy.
