In addition to his many practical music-making skills as conductor, choir director, pianist, chamber musician, and harpsichord player, Peter has a passion for Music Education. This has seen him involved at all levels, from Primary School projects, through Secondary School teaching to University lecturing. His particular passion is to enable musicians to understand the music they are playing more fully, by seeing it from theory, harmony and aural points of view.
This deep understanding enables students to engage more fully with the demands of practical music–making. Peter has worked with many of New Zealand's leading vocal soloists, choral ensembles and orchestral groups. He has also worked with The National Youth Choir, Auckland University choirs and many choral groups around the country. In addition to examining internationally for Trinity College London, Peter frequently adjudicates for The Big Sing Secondary Schools Choral Festival.
Peter coordinates the very popular Thursdays @ Seven concerts in Howick, Auckland. In 2005 he was awarded MNZM for services to choral music.
