Chris Artley | Composer

Chris Artley is one of New Zealand’s leading writers of choral music. He has won first prize in eleven international composing competitions worldwide, including the 2015 Cincinnati Camerata Composition Contest, the 2017 Leeds Philharmonic Christmas Carol Competition, the 2017 Freudig Singers of Western New York Choral Composition Competition and the 2018 District of Colombia Chapter of the American Organists Competition.

Chris has had over 50 choral works published worldwide, and his works have been performed by ensembles including: The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, the Amadeus Choir of Toronto, the Lutheran Youth Choir of North America, the Metropolitan Chorus of Tokyo, the National University of Singapore Choir, Age of Discovery, Auckland, The Graduate Choir New Zealand, Voices New Zealand, The New Zealand Youth Choir and Secondary Students Choir.

Chris has been Guest Composer for Sing Aotearoa 2016 Choral Festival in Rotorua NZ; for the 2018 RSCM Australasian Summer School in Auckland and for ISCMS Choral Festival in Shanghai in Feb 2019.

 

Associate Professor Eve de Castro Robinson | Composer

Eve de Castro-Robinson is one of New Zealand’s foremost composers. She has been commissioned and performed by a wide variety of performers, including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia, with whom she was Composer-in-Residence in 1991, Chamber Music NZ, NZ String Quartet, NZ Trio, Aventa Ensemble (Canada), the Nash Ensemble of London.

Her output ranges from large orchestral to vocal, chamber and virtuoso solo works that are performed in NZ and internationally. She is twice winner of both the SOUNZ Contemporary Award and the Philip Neill Memorial Prize, and has undertaken several international residencies.

Eve has five solo CDs on the Atoll and Rattle labels, and her The Gristle of Knuckles won her the 2018 Vodafone NZ Music Awards Best Classical Artist. She is Associate Professor in Composition at the University of Auckland where she directs The Karlheinz Company, and Deputy Chair of the Board of SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music.

 

David Hamilton | Composer

David Hamilton was Head of Music at Epsom Girls Grammar School until 2001, Deputy Music Director of Auckland Choral (1996-2011), and composer-in-residence with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (1999). He maintains part-time involvement in music education as a composition tutor and choral conductor.

He is well-known as a choral composer and conductor, workshop leader and adjudicator (including the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales). His choral music is widely performed, and is published in the UK, USA, Germany and Finland. Works have been commissioned by choirs in Japan, England, USA, Finland, Canada and Ireland.

His music has won competitions locally, and in Italy, the USA, Israel, and the UK. He was guest composer at Sing Aotearoa (2013), and composer-in-residence at the NZ Singing School (2015). In 2018 he was awarded the SOUNZ Community Commission for a new work for youth groups in Taranaki.
