Edith Salzmann studied at the Music Academy in Detmold, Germany and at Indiana University, Bloomington (USA) with cello teachers including Janos Starker, Irene Guedel and Andre Navarra. She has been a member of the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra, the Corda String Quartet, the Musikfabrik Duesseldorf and has performed extensively all over Europe, America, Asia and Australasia. From 2001 Edith was Senior Lecturer for cello at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch followed by a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Auckland.
Since 2018, she has been teaching at the University of Melbourne. In high demand as a teacher, she has given masterclasses in Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Italy, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. Since 2005, Edith has been the Artistic Director of the Musiktage Merzig Festival in Germany, the International Akaroa Music Festival and the Pettman National Junior Academy in New Zealand. Edith has recorded for the Stradivarius label (Milan), EMI Germany and Atoll New Zealand.
